This project was for my Daughter. She teaches at Verona School Dist. She was assigned a new room this year and She wanted to update it and refresh it for her kids. Well like a lot of School Dist. across the country extra money is not there. so we went to work.
She had shelves from other years that I had built her. As you see in picture 1. You also see the old radiator heat pipes behind them. She was upset that they could not be used. So her is were Dad comes in. Question from Daughter, Dad can you remove the pipe or can you cover it up. It is not being used. So I went to work in my head.
I took all the shelves home to the shop but 2. Cut all of them down to be 29 and 5/8 inches tall with no top picture 2. I put a rail down the middle to attach the top to. this is in my shop this section is 18 feet long. Then the work began I hauled it all to the school and we started see pic 3. I added backing to all the shelves. I also attached them all together. And the installed a melamine top all the way down it was 8 foot sections and it is 29 feet along the one wall. The counter top is 18 inch wide to cove the pipe and is set to the wall. see pic 4. and we finished up by also putting a new counter top on the cabinet that was in the class room to make it all match see pic 5.
What a fun project. If you get a chance help a school or a Teacher to get ready for the new school year.
